Common Threats to IAQ

Did you know that our indoor environments can have up to 10 times more pollutants than outdoors?  Knowing what you’re up against is the first step to improving your indoor air quality.

Below, are the three most common contaminants and their remedies.

Biological Contaminants -Microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, dust mites and mold can grow in your home. These can cause ongoing health issues, such as allergic reactions and can contribute to asthma-related illnesses.

Particulates – Dust, pet dander, insect parts and more all have the ability to become airborne. Some are visible, and some are so microscopic you’ll never see them, but they are in the air.

Gaseous Fumes – Gaseous pollutants include fumes from household cleaners, air fresheners, adhesives, varnishes, paints and off-gassing from materials like carpets, drapes and furnishings.

Some Common Remedies are:

  • UV light purifiers: UV light destroys microorganisms. The level of radiation and frequency used causes permanent damage to their cellular structures killing the organisms.
  • HEPA filters: High-efficiency particulate air filters are capable of trapping 99.97 percent of all particulates, including microorganisms.  HEPA filters have been proven to reduce symptoms for allergy and asthma sufferers.
  • Electronic air purifiers: Instead of simply sifting pollutants out of your air, electronic air purifiers attract them. They attribute an electrical charge to particles, which are magnetically attracted to the filter.

These are just a few ways to increase the level of air quality in your home.  If you have questions regarding this article or any other questions regarding your home comfort system, contact  Hobaica Services @602-995-0387.  At Hobaica, our goal is to keep homes in the Valley of the Sun comfortable and healthy.
