When A Scottsdale Neighbor Was In Need, We Were There to Help
This summer’s record-breaking temperatures in Phoenix have melted trash cans, strained the power grid and grounding flights out of Sky Harbor. With this heat, it’s vital to have a reliable air conditioner to cool your home. But when local Scottsdale retiree Glen Joy’s air conditioning became unreliable, it was another burden added to his already full plate.
When Hobaica learned of his Glen’s story, they were eager to help.
Glen wasn’t expecting to need air conditioning service this year. In fact, his air conditioning system was the last thing on his mind. His top concern has been doctor’s appointments and medical bills. Glen has cancer.
So when his air conditioner began acting up, there was little he could do about it. With a fixed Social Security income and expensive cancer treatments to worry about, he could tolerate being a little warmer than usual.
But then his air conditioner gave out completely, and Glen found himself in the hospital with heat stroke. He knew he needed to call for air conditioning service, but he couldn’t afford it. Glen called Hobaica and explained his situation to us.
We came out immediately and performed a free diagnostic air conditioning service. Unfortunately, his air conditioner was dead. He would need a new air conditioner installed. Knowing that his income was not only limited but already dedicated to covering his cancer treatments, Glen worried how he would pay for a new air conditioning system.
We at Hobaica agreed to replace his air conditioning system at cost, significantly reducing the expense. But we didn’t stop there!
We contacted the local Society of St. Vincent de Paul, whose mission is to help those in need. Hobaica has partnered with the Vincentians on projects before, and Glen’s AC installation was a perfect opportunity to partner again.
The Vincentians met Glen, learned about his medical needs and financial challenges, and agreed that we needed to work together to ensure that he got the air conditioning replacement he needed. They generously donated $1,000 to cover the cost of his new AC.
Thanks to the partnership between Hobaica Services and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Glen no longer has to worry that the record temperatures in Scottsdale this summer will put his health at risk. He is able to enjoy cool, comfortable air in his home and simply focus on healing.
